Digital Sink Interface

My digital sink interface seeks to explore ways that we can begin to integrate digital technology into tradition analog sinks.

This interface which, uses IR and capacitive touch technology allows user to set 5 different ideal temperature settings. The controls feature back lit buttons with color indicators, as well as a radial temperature indicator. Users are also afforded the ability to dial into temperature and pressure, with buttons and a touch slider.

 

I am interested in feedback on the concept, interaction design and user experience of household interfaces.

Digital Faucet Interface

Role Prototypes: Kitchen Sink and Shower/Bath Roles

These two role prototypes explore how the digital faucet could be integrated into two different spaces for consumers. Within a kitchen sink, additionally within the bath or shower. It would allow for quick temperature settings to be used additionally it would prevent burning and scalding in shower situations, as well as ensuring accurate washing temps for hands, dishes and food.

 

Look and Feel Prototype: 

This prototype showcases the high-end nature of the faucet in someones kitchen. It would compliment the modern decor of kitchens today, as well as the other state of the art appliances.

 

Implementation Prototype:

You'll notice here that after building an enclosure for the capacitance touch chip I was able to get greater control and accuracy over the chip and motor connections. This is also a primitive look and feel as my project will need to have an enclosure, however I believe that it should look more like the above look and feel it give it more of a high-end luxury appeal.

Fire Fly Jar

So as a second iteration for my fire fly jar, I got feedback from a few users on my first iteration.

My findings were as follows:

The Two 'ambient lights' worked together and didn't capture the notion of multiple fire flies.
The wires coming out of the top, took away from the mystery of what was happening.
The lights didn't seem to communicate with eachother the same was fire flies in a jar would.
And lastly - "There should be plants to feed the fire flies in the jar"

 

All of these items seemed very inline with the directions I needed to take to improve my product.

In order to update, I added another LED and put each LED on its own PWM output, so they could all fade individually, this gave me three seperate lights.
Once I had the three lights I needed to make the appear to be communicating/moving - so I created a randomizer that would only light certain LEDs during the loop.
