Boohbah is the second generation of Teletubbies. I decided to dissect this particular plush toy because it hasn't been done. I bought this at KB Toys for $9.99. Considering the various movements it was able to do I found this a great deal. Despite its scary appearance it was a toy I wouldn't mind taking apart. To be honest, this toy scares the hell out me. My roommates also think the same. We don't understand why little kids love this toy so much?

DISSECTION LEG & HAND
I dissected from the leg upwards . Then I flipped the hide inside out as it was still attached at the neck. I tried to detach the hand switch inside out but it was much too difficult. Instead, I slit the wrist and pouch that situates the first switch. A purple wire connects the switch to the main box where it triggers movement and sound.
DISSECTION - NECK
Pulling the hide over the head, I opened the neck pouch to reveal a yellow ossicilating gear. To completely remove the hide I cut seams along the neck inside out but I ended up slitting along the throat from the outside
DISSECTION - BODY
After removing the hide I tried to crack open the body but I ran into a few problems. First, I had to cut a plastic fastener. Second, there are 7 main screws and majority of them were tight.
Third, I had difficulty detaching the base to its surrounded materials. Since the material was glued from the base to the body frame it fastened the framing together making it difficult to open. I cut along the base piece destroying parts of the material but I successfully opened the frame.
DISSECTION - CIRCUITS
Cracking the body open you will see the main circuit board that attaches to a speaker and 2 switches. You will also see a motor with a v-belt. The mechanics are quite intricate. I did not continue to break apart the pieces because I was afraid I would break it.
DISSECTION - MORE SWITCHES
The second switch lies on the base piece. When you press the right foot of Boohbah it also triggers the same actions as the hand switch. The second switch is fastened by plastic framing. Both switches are push buttons.
DISSECTION - MATERIALS
The hide is made from Polyester. It kind of sheds from time to time. A cotton-like polyester lines the insides of the toy to create a soft feeling. The last photo is a funny picture of Boohbah, it reminds me of a mangosteen.
DISSECTION - MECHANICS IN MOTION
Here's a short video of how the mechanics work.
congratulations on your work.
we thought that putting him back inside-out was somewhat tasteless and/or perverted. fiendish.

great project. we got our daughter this doll for hannukah last year and we used it to annoy her aunts and uncles by waking them up with it early in the morning.
fun stuff. really. not sure we're going to show her this project, though.
keep up the good work.
