My name is Jia Zhang.

Background
I studied industrial design at risd where I also spent time on furniture. After school I went to work in the Philippines for photography, and Iceland for landscape architecture before moving to New York in 2005. In New York, I now work for a Chinese artist Xu Bing as his design director. My job involves design and management of various installations and special commissions for museums.
Parsons
Its from this job that I became interested in the Parsons program. I was constantly exposed to technologies and concepts that I only had limited understanding of at my job and in my personal work. Around the same time as we were embarking on a large interactive project, Xu Bing gave a lecture at Parsons and I was introduced to the program.
Interest in computation
The reason I would like to be in the computation studio is mainly because I am so uncomfortable with computation concepts. I was not able to create accurate working prototypes for my projects last semester because of this lack of experience. I have no experience in programming, but I like math and logic problems and I am not afraid of code. I would like to take this time at Parsons to become fluent in a programming language and work with code in depth. I was introduced to processing over the summer in bootcamp.
What I want to get out of class
In this class I would like to make projects that deal with language and memory that can be executed with programming languages I learn here. I need to see my ideas through to working prototypes and gain practice in this process. I would like to work with processing in depth to gain a better understanding of programming in general.
and this is the game I love: you have to connect 5, what is this called?
